We had two tawny frogmouths up a gum tree at our house in Waggrakine, Geraldton. They often come in pairs. It was the first house my parents bought after arriving in Australia, a fibro job on a 20-acre block. The Christmas beetles are a reminder of the creatures that were once common in childhood but are harder to find now.
